El corazon de Nosara esta en el omelette

The best Costa Rican omelette I’ve ever had

Ok, I’ve only had one omelette here so far, but this one has set the bar pretty high. We drove into “downtown” Nosara, right into el corazon, to check the scene, maybe hit the beach and get some groceries. But first, breakfast! We wandered around a little because no place seemed open and ended up finding the Cafe de Paris. It has an expansive food menu and plenty of beverage choices as well. The girls ordered smoothie-type drinks and Kim and I had iced coffee.

And la comida! The girls and I had the “omelette chef’s,” which was huge! It must’ve been made with three or four eggs, plus peppers, onions, bacon, ham and cheese. It came with three pieces of a French baguette and rice and beans.

So much delicious omelette!

Kim had two fried eggs, which is pretty much what she orders when we’re in the states. Her breakfast also came with avocado and beans and rice.

The food was delicious and filling and we had just enough time to push our plates away to prevent our stomachs from exploding in ecstasy before the rain came. Buckets. Sheets. Thunder and lightning and we had to move inside, under the main roof. We sat it out for about an hour or so, until the girls were ready to run to the car. We gave them the key and they took off while we tried to find a store to get a little food for our hotel room.

Donde esta… um, the store?

We splashed around a little in the rivers that had started to run in the streets, found a brewpub, discovered it was closed, and eventually asked a clothing store employee where the nearest grocery store was. Much improvised sign language was used, since our two translators were in the car. We found the store, right on the main street in el corazon of the town.

Half and hour and $40 later, we had the essentials and headed back to El Ramal to wait out the rain in our room. Eventually the sun burned through the clouds enough and the girls and I got to swim in the hotel pool. After we dried off, we explored the rest of the road past our hotel and discovered El Chivo (the goat) which would turn out to be our go-to for dinner three times!

La playa esta aqui!

My first piece of Costa Rican sea glass.

We also found a beach! Pardon my language, but I am a whore for sea glass. I love finding it, I love playing with it, and I love making things out of it. My enthusiasm is shared by Tayler and Aubrie too. Even Kim gets in on the hunt occasionally. I love sea glass so much, I don’t like to talk to people about where it is or when I’m looking for it. I barely can say the words “sea glass” in public for fear of someone hearing me and beating me to my destination.

I had barely put both feet in the sand when I looked down and found a decent piece of green sea glass.

The four of us spent about an hour on the beach, looking for more glass and other treasures. We came up empty-handed in the glass department but did find some really cool shells that I will make some kind of jewelry out of when we get home. The sound of the waves hitting the beach was almost deafening, definitely soothing, and extremely enchanting. I have come to realize I love the ocean and I don’t want to be far from it for long.
