Halftime entertainment

I like to provide entertainment for people. Making people laugh is my absolute favorite thing to do. I also like to smacktalk. I have no filter normally and when it comes to trash talking, my mouth just has a mind of its own. There’s an English teacher here, Annie, who mentioned something about a race. We were watching the students at our fall sports meeting and I promptly told Annie I could beat her at a race. I said if I wore my “fast” socks, she’d be in trouble. She smiled and accepted my ignorant challenge.

We decided to do a 400 m sprint during a break on the final day of the sports meeting. We good-naturedly teased each other, although in my mind I was pretty sure she was going to win. She’s trim and in shape. I haven’t seen many overweight people since we’ve been here and I’m dying to know their secret. They eat steamed buns for breakfast and rice at every lunch.

Here I am with my small and lean competition, Annie, and another teacher and friend, Linda. I can see now that her expression could be saying, “what are you getting yourself into, Jamie?”
Notice my ready stance, the posture of an athlete. Muscles primed and ready to twitch their way down the track.

Unfortunately I don’t have a picture of us crossing the finish line. There’s no lense that moves that fast. I’ll just say there will be a rematch and maybe that race will be a little longer. Annie is very good at short-distance running. I am not good at any type of running, nor do I particularly enjoy it, but I’ll give it another try on the off-chance that maybe Annie will have sore muscles or a head cold that day. There will be no more sprinting.
